“The Robert Downey Jr. tentpole is bested only by fellow Marvel pic “The Avengers” and will hit $1 billion in global tickets sales on Thursday.Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 has become the No. 2 superhero pic of all time with $990.5 million in global ticket sales.From Disney and Marvel Studios, the threequel is bested only by fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which took in $1.5 billion last summer and also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.Iron Man 3 hits another milestone on Thursday when it crosses the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office and jumps the $300 million mark in North America. Through Wednesday, its domestic total was $298.6 million.The tentpole has earned $691.9 million so far internationally, putting it at No. 11 on the list of top-grossing films.”
