No. 2 - Tony Stark (Iron Man)

Some may feel that Bruce Wayne should be here but he’s too much of a downer. That’s why we’re choosing dapper Tony Stark aka Iron Man, stupendously played by Robert Downey, Jr. After all, can we imagine anyone else at this point to portray the billionaire industrialist? The actor eeks charisma.

And the most popular ‘Avengers’ hero is …

For those curious about which of the characters played by A-listers Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans fans would most like to be, Facebook has taken out the guesswork.

The social-media platform said it polled more than 5 millon of its users to see which Avenger came out on top.

Drumroll …

In an unsurprising result, folks are still enamored with Iron Man, with Downey snatching 37% of the overall vote. Evans’ Captain America came in second at 19%, with Hemsworth on his heels as Thor with 17%. Johansson’s assassin Black Widow netted a 13% popularity score, with Ruffalo’s Incredible Hulk coming in last at 11%.

Does anyone in this franchise really lose, though?

“In an April survey on Fandango, the majority of moviegoers picked The Avengers as the most anticipated film of the summer. Some 66% of fans said they plan to see the pic on the big screen more than once. About 31% chose Iron Man as the film’s biggest draw, followed by The Hulk (23%); Thor (15%), and Captain America (12%).”

Worst To Best: Robert Downey Jr

Iron Man recast? Robert Downey Jr. “would really hate” that.

At CinemaCon last week, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige mentioned to Badass Digest that when it came time for Downey to leave the role of Tony Stark behind, a new actor could pick up right where he left off, like in the James Bond films.

But Downey told MTV News on the red carpet that he wasn’t so thrilled about the idea of someone else playing Tony Stark. “I would really hate for someone else to think they could step into my shoes,” he said. An infamous jokester, he couldn’t help but ask, “I wonder who’s playing Tony Stark next. Is it you? Is that what you’re here to tell me?”

But Downey can’t be Iron Man forever, and while the 47-year-old actor couldn’t say for sure how many movies he has left in him, he made clear he’ll be interested as long as they remain good films.

“I know things are looking like that they could go on for a long while,” Downey said. “As usual in my book, it’s all about quality control and delivering a product that you can have this kind of reaction to. If they keep doing that, maybe I’ll keep showing up.”
